Knee injections are the most commonly quoted procedure in Thailand, and the most variable in price. Here is what clinics quote, what changes the number, and what is usually excluded.

Prices below are ranges collected from published clinic pricing, patient-reported quotes and public consultation material. They are indicative only — always confirm the exact inclusions in writing before you travel. StemCell Guide does not take commission from clinics.

What changes the price

  • Cell dose — most knee quotes assume 20–50 million cells per joint. Doubling the dose usually adds 40–80% to the price.
  • Ultrasound or fluoroscopic guidance — included by better clinics, charged separately by some.
  • Whether MRI and pre-treatment imaging are inside the quote or billed on the day.
  • Fresh vs cryopreserved cells — fresh protocols carry a premium.
  • Follow-up: a genuine ortho program includes a review at 6–12 weeks. Single-shot pricing rarely does.

Frequently asked questions

How much does stem cell therapy for knees cost in Thailand?
Most Bangkok clinics quote ฿100,000 to ฿200,000 (roughly $2,800 to $5,600) for a single knee using umbilical cord-derived MSCs. Packages covering both knees, imaging and follow-up run higher.
Is it cheaper than knee replacement surgery abroad?
Usually yes on the sticker price, but they are not equivalent procedures. Stem cell injection is not a replacement for arthroplasty in end-stage, bone-on-bone joints, and clinics that claim otherwise should be treated cautiously.
Does insurance cover it?
Almost never. Stem cell injection for osteoarthritis is treated as elective and non-standard by most insurers in the US, UK, EU and Australia. Assume you are paying out of pocket.
How many sessions will I need?
Clinics typically propose one to three injections per joint over three to six months. Be sceptical of any protocol requiring more than three without an interim review of your response.
